Repurposed Children’s Picnic Table into A Chalkboard Table!
This was my fun Memorial Day Craft…..during nap time 🙂 I enjoyed a nice break outdoors, Crafting Like Crazy, listening to my 80’s Pandora station, with a glass of wine.
My Little One loves to play with Chalk! But our driveway is much too hot and sunny for a long play session. Our deck is covered in shade so that is where we spend most of our outdoor playtime. I had to get creative and find a way to incorporate his new favorite outdoor activity for the deck. We inherited a child-size picnic table and after the previous children’s love and use, it needed a little face lift, so I repurposed it as a Chalkboard Table!
Here is how I did it:
To begin, I assembled all the necessary materials:
- Paper Towels
- Chalkboard Paint and Paint Brush
- Glass of Wine
- Music (80’s Mix)
Those last two steps were Important to make this a Relaxing Craft Time, but feel free to modulate those steps into what makes this Relaxing for You!
My Handsome Hound was out and helping me set up for the project too 😀 Couldn’t ask for better Crafting Companion!
I cleaned the surface of the table with a damp paper towel, making sure the tree sap spots and other miscellaneous outdoor debris were gone. When that was dry, I began painting. **Make sure to use long and even strokes, the final product looks much nicer this way.**
I painted three full coats and even touched up some spots with a fourth layer. Depending on the material, plastic in this case, and color you may need more or less in layers of paint.
It was warm and sunny outside while I was working on this project, so when I wasn’t using my paint brush it was wrapped in a damp paper towel to prevent the paint from drying and wrecking the brush.
Be sure to let the paint dry overnight before coloring on with chalk. The paint my still be too soft and then peel away from the surface if it’s not fully dried.
What a fun project this was for me, mainly because I knew how much my LO was going to Love using this “New” Chalkboard Table!
As Always, Wine Pairs Wonderfully with Motherhood, and the wine selection for my session of Crafting Like Crazy was Milano Cellars California Misti Bianco, perfect for Relaxing out on the deck 😀
I loved how this turned out!! Can’t wait to see what I come up with next, so Stay Tuned for more Crafts from A Rosé Momma!!
